Protections

Understanding the protections

What Shugoi brings to your service, how to use its decisions and which limitations to consider.

Recognition

« What does Shugoi recognise? »

Shugoi helps a website recognise a machine and apply its anti-abuse rules. This recognition does not prove a person's identity and does not replace signing in to an account.

« Does recognition always remain the same? »

Recognition can vary with the environment and changes to it. Similar machines may also be confused. Test your users' journeys before making recognition a condition of access.

Access decisions

« Who decides whether to block access? »

The website owner chooses the protections and permissions. Results should be assessed alongside the service's other controls, taking legitimate users into account.

« Does a block prove abuse? »

No. A rule may reject a legitimate environment or encounter an error. Contact the website you visited to request a review; a block is not an accusation of fraud.

Deployment and limits

« Does Shugoi prevent every bypass? »

No web protection can guarantee that. Shugoi aims to limit abuse; sensitive access also requires authentication, authorization and monitoring within your service.

« How should I prepare a deployment? »

Test rules on your actual user journeys, measure legitimate rejections and provide a review process for users. Adapt protections to your service before applying them broadly.
